Urdu service of the Voice of Turkey (TRT) announced their Question of the Month TRT August 2018. Republic of Turkey officially switched to a presidential system. August quiz focusing a major event happened with this change.
Binali Yıldırım
Binali Yıldırım was born in Refahiye, Erzincan Province, on 20 December 1955. His name, Binali, means son of Ali. His surname, Yıldırım, means “lightning bolt. He completed his Master’s Degree from İstanbul Technical University’s School of Maritime on Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. Yıldırım served as the director general of the İstanbul Fast Ferries Company (İDO) from 1994 to 2000. In 1999, he received a quality award medal by the Skål International group. This award was for his contributions to the modernization of the maritime transportation and tourism industries. Prime Minister Abdullah Gül appointed him as Minister of Transport. Turkish lawmakers on Thursday elected Turkey’s last Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım to be the first speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly under new government system. Yıldırım has served as the country’s final prime minister until earlier this week, when the post was abolished under constitutional changes.
Having served the country as the transport, maritime affairs and communications minister in the 58th, 59th, 60th, 61st and 64th governments, Yıldırım became Turkey’s prime minister in May 2016. With the constitutional changes approved in the April 16, 2017 referendum, which envisaged a new executive presidential system. It was decided that the prime ministerial post would be abolished. Turkey officially switched to a presidential system with the June 24 elections.
